Melasma/Hyperpigmentation is a common condition in which patches of skin become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. The darkening occurs when melanin, the dark pigment that produces normal skin pigment, forms excessive deposits in the skin. This condition can be caused by sun damage, birth control pills, hormonal changes, inflammation, certain illnesses and medications. Melasma/Hyperpigmentation can affect the skin color of people of any race but is more common in Hispanics, Asians, and darker skinned ethnicities.
How is Melasma/Hyperpigmentation Treated?
Melasma/Hyperpigmentation can be treated with the aesthetic compound treatment Melasma kit, is a depigmentation treatment that acts as both a chemical peel to help peel away pigmented skin cells in the outer skin, while also blocking melanin production. Melanin is the natural pigment that darkens your skin when you tan and also when you hyperpigment.
Melasma kit include:
- Melasma Mask: key ingredients are Azelaic Acid, Hydroquinone, Kojic Acid, Tretinoin
- Melasma Maintenance Cream: key ingredients are Hydroquinone, Kojic Acid, Tretinoin
- Clear Face Pads: key ingredients are Salicylic Acid, Sulfacetamide Sodium, Clindamycin
- Peptide Cream: key ingredient is Hyaluronic acid for face and neck
The Melasma Mask is applied to your face and is left on for 8 to 12 hours depending on your skin type. The mask is removed at home with water and a neutral cleanser. This is followed by a home maintenance program which consists of daily applications of the Melasma Maintenance Cream. The Melasma Maintenance Cream is applied about 2 or 3 times a day, for the first couple of weeks, then once daily.
What Results Can Be Expected?
A significant lightening of the hyperpigmentation will be seen immediately with more gradual improvement after the peeling is done and the Melasma Maintenance Cream maintenance cream is used over several months. While results are not permanent, much of the hyperpigmenation may remain under control for months or years as long as sun protection and maintenance bleaching creams are used.
